Fueling the change

As a supplier of fuel and convenience, we are at the heart of an industry accountable for large CO2 emissions. Our society today depends heavily on fossil fuels, but we have a great responsibility to make our business sustainable as soon as possible.

We concentrate our efforts in three decisive areas; we increase the share of sustainable fuels, we improve today’s regular fuel and we support the conversion to electricity.

Providing more renewable fuels

Biofuels are made from renewable sources such as corn, wheat, sugar cane, trees, vegetable oils and waste.

Our biofuels are used in two ways — we mix them with our regular fuels and we sell them as pure biofuels. By adding them to our regular petrol and diesel, our customers always get 4–5% biofuel without even thinking about it. This way, every Circle K customer contributes to reduced CO2 emissions from fossil fuels with no effort at all.

During 2019 our renewable fuel share was 10.3%. This adds up to almost 2 million tons of CO2 saved, which is the same as taking about 600 000 passenger cars off the streets.

Improving our regular fuel

Together with partners and suppliers, we constantly work on improving our regular fuels and making them less harmful to the environment. One of the most effective ways to do this is with additives that clean the engine and reduce friction. Circle K ́s cutting-edge additives in miles, milesPLUS and milesBIO are among the best available and reduce fuel consumption, and thereby CO2 emissions, by 2-3%.

Supporting the conversion to electricity

We dare to say that no fuel retailer in our markets does more than Circle K when it comes to supporting the conversion to electric vehicles. Our goal is to make it easy for companies and consumers to make the shift and we are increasing the number of chargers and charging stations in a high pace. For 2020, we aim at 500+ quick charging points and a 1,000% increase in total charging capacity (compared to 2018). We also provide home charging in Norway.

Our goal is that all electricity we offer through our Circle K charger network should be traceable and come from renewable sources. Because if not, the environmental gains from electric vehicles are drastically reduced.

Main targets (2018-2023):

  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions through increased sales of renewable fuels — equivalent to taking an additional 50,000 fossil-powered cars off the streets.
  • 500+ quick chargers at Circle K sites.

What can you do?

  • Fuel your car at Circle K and take advantage of our blended biofuels and fuel saving additives.
  • Plan your driving and drive smoothly to lower your fuel consumption.
  • Consider a vehicle with smaller carbon footprint as your next car.
